Kentucky Motorcycle Insurance Law

In Kentucky, the basic 25/50/10 is required to register your motorcycle in Kentucky. But, please keep in mind that the “No Fault” PIP insurance is optional and thus if you do not have it or it was rejected, you will be responsible for the first $10,000 in medical benefits to yourself.

In Kentucky, the law requires that all riders younger than 21 years of age wear helmets, without exception. Those 21 years and older may ride without helmets only if they can show proof that they are covered by a medical insurance policy. If you have any questions regarding your motorcycle insurance coverage, please contact a Kentucky Motorcycle Attorney at the Law Offices of Andrew S. Alitowski.

In addition, the PIP coverage you may have on your car at home will not cover you while you are on your motorcycle. We strongly recommend that you buy PIP coverage and more than the minimum $10,000. In most severe motorcycle accidents, $10,000 really is not enough. Also, it is important to talk to your insurance agent and make sure your car and motorcycle polices can stack so that you can take full advantage of all the policies you have.

We also recommend you get property damage, bodily injury and uninsured coverage. If you are in an accident and damage is done to another person’s car or if you are injured, in that almost 30% of all drivers on the roads of Kentucky are uninsured, it is strongly recommended that you have “full” coverage and get uninsured coverage. You can never have enough personal insurance coverage.
