Car Accidents
- All vehicles in the State of Kentucky are required to have Kentucky Insurance with at least the bare minimum coverage which is $10,000 personal injury protection (PIP) and $25,000 Bodily Injury liability (BI) along with a valid Kentucky tag.
- In Kentucky you can opt out of PIP insurance if you so choose. If you do take it, it usually will cover up to $10,000 in medical expenses to each person in the car that they are in, regardless of who’s at fault. This can include family members living with the owner of the vehicle. It also will reimburse you and your family for lost wages. You can purchase additional PIP coverage if you so desire.
- Bodily Injury (BI) coverage pays a party who has been injured when you are at fault. It pays for their pain and suffering. It is mandatory.
- In the State of Kentucky Underinsured/Uninsured Motorist coverage (UM/UIM Insurance) is optional. Usually when an insured driver says they have “full coverage” this is what they mean. That they have UM/UIM as well. UM/UIM pays for pain and suffering when the other car, which is at fault, is not adequately insured or uninsured. This will compensate you for suffering you have had to endure as a result of your pain and injuries.
- Collision coverage is optional. This coverage pays for the damage to your vehicle involved in an accident.
